Finnish developer of next-generation augmented reality (AR) see-through displays, Dispelix, has raised 12 million euros in funding to ramp up mass production.

The funding round attracted both local and international interest, with participation from Lifeline Ventures, VTT Ventures and Finnish Industry Investment, as well as from 3M Ventures, the venture capital arm of US-based conglomerate 3M.

Dispelix‘s display technology is currently being applied to an increasing number of its customers’ products under development, the first of which are to hit the shelves in 2019.

“Although the Dispelix see-through display is the thinnest on the market, we have not compromised the image quality: both eye-box and field-of-view are large, resolution is high and colour balance is excellent,” says Juuso Olkkonen, CTO and co-founder of Dispelix. “In addition, our technology platform enables mass customisation of displays according to the individual needs of our customers.”

Dispelix secured 1.7 million euros in funding from Lifeline Ventures and VTT Ventures in 2016, shortly after the company spun off from VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland. The following year, it was selected among the world’s most promising startups by Bloomberg.
