Critical Force raises more than EUR 5 million
Critical Force, the Finnish mobile game developer behind the very popular first-person shooter (FPS) mobile game Critical Ops, has raised 5.45 million euros from Business Finland.
Critical Force will use the funding to scale up its Critical Ops mobile game, which has already been downloaded more than 40 million times. The goal is to turn it into the world’s leading e-sports FPS mobile franchise.
In addition to building the global Critical Ops e-sports ecosystem, Critical Force will use the funding to develop and deploy an automated production platform to speed up game development, as well as build analytics tools. A game server software is also in the pipeline.
“With the new funding we are happy to have the opportunity to really show our hands regarding our status as the number one developer of mobile esports FPS games,” says Critical Force CEO Veli-Pekka Piirainen, in a press release. “The news of the funding coincided beautifully with us reaching 40 million downloads as well as our very first Critical Ops live tournament in Seattle with a 40 000-US dollar prize pool.”
Critical Ops has hit 40 million downloads, even though it hasn’t been officially released yet. The official 1.0 release will take place in the near future.
