Finnish telecommunications company Bittium has received the first orders for its hybrid mobile device from Mexican authorities and has opened a new local office.

Bittium’s mobile device for satellite communications systems has been in development since 2015. It is now ready for volume production, which is taking place in Finland.

The value of the first order from Mexican authorities is worth approximately two million euros and will be delivered by the end of the first quarter of 2018. According to Bittium CEO Hannu Huttunen, this follows a successful product development phase and good co-operation with the Mexican authorities.

“These are the most advanced hybrid devices in the world developed for a satellite communication system, which can be used for communication in both the satellite and terrestrial networks,” Huttunen says.

To support operations in Mexico and other Latin American countries, Bittium has also opened a new branch office in Mexico. The company also currently has sales and support activities in the UK, Singapore and the US, and altogether employs more than 600 people around the world.
