3DBear hits USD 1.5 million in funding

Finnish edtech company 3DBear has completed its second closing, bringing its total amount funded to 1.5 million US dollars.

3DBear’s online learning tool and platform for augmented reality and 3D printing attracted US VC LearnStart.

“We invested in 3DBear because we believe in their product and team,” says Don Burton, managing member of LearnStart VC. “In the long run, they want to build a product that makes 3D design and modelling easy and fun for everyone.”

LearnStart joins an earlier investor, fellow American Rethink Education, in giving the Helsinki-based startup a capital boost.

“We’re very excited to continue expansion to the US market,” says Kristo Lehtonen, CEO of 3DBear, in a release. “Students find 3DBear AR lessons fun and engaging, and teachers find that they are not constrained by physical limitations of 3D printers.”

3DBear brings together Finnish pedagogical knowledge and technological expertise. Its smartphone and tablet app can be used to teach both academic subjects and skills such as design, problem solving, collaboration and computational thinking.
