UN Technology Innovation Lab lands at Aalto
The first United National Technology Innovation Lab (UNTIL) will be housed at the Aalto University campus in Espoo, Finland.
The establishment of the lab was launched at a Slush side event last week, co-organised by the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland and the Office for Information and Communication and Technologies of the United Nations. Two more labs will be announced in Asia and Africa before the end of the year, and the global network will continue to grow next year.
Each lab will concentrate on different thematic areas that are central to the need of the lab’s location. Finland’s UNTIL will focus on circular economy, education, health, peace and security.
UNTIL labs create a platform for problem-solving between the UN, private sector, academia and civil society, with the help of startups.
The home of the lab will be A Grid, Aalto University’s new centre for growth companies. A Grid will also be hosting the European Space Agency Business Incubation Centre. According to a release, the agreement was signed by European Space Agency, Aalto University and the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment last week.
