The Nokian WR D4 winter tyre from Finnish tyre manufacturer Nokian Tyres has been approved by the BMW Group as original equipment for the BMW X1 Sports Activity Vehicle.

Nokian Tyres has developed the WR D4 winter tyre specifically for Central European weather conditions.

Before being taken on by the Germany-based car manufacturer, the tyre had to receive an OE approval from BMW Group by going through BMW’s thorough testing programme.

“The co-operation with the BMW Group shows that we, as the world’s northernmost tyre manufacturer, are respected and the quality of our products is valued,” saysMarkus Honkala, group sales manager from Nokian Tyres. “This is a very important step for us in developing our OE activities and business further.”

Nokian Tyres has co-operated with car manufacturers extensively especially in the Nordic countries. The new partnership with BMW strengthens the company’s position in Central Europe, which is the world’s largest winter tyre market.

Nokian Tyres will manufacture the tyres for BMW Group at the Nokia factory in Finland, where the first winter tyre was developed more than 80 years ago.
