Global report: Finland has plenty of talent
Finland has improved its talent indicators and claimed the fifth spot in the annual IMD World Talent Ranking. On top of that, Finland placed fourth in terms of digital competitiveness globally.
The IMD World Talent Ranking bases a country’s performance on three main categories: investment and development, appeal and readiness.
These main indicators cover a wide range of areas to ascertain how well a country may attract, develop and retain top talent. Aspects such as education, workplace training, language skills and quality of life were assessed.
Finland outdid itself this year, and rose one spot to claim fifth position in the ranking that looked at 63 countries this time around.
The northern nation performed especially well in the investment and development and readiness categories, while, as with its high-performing Nordic neighbours, it lagged a little behind the top competition in terms of appeal to foreign workers, due mainly to high-living costs.
Switzerland, Denmark and Belgium took the top three spots again this year.
In addition, a new IMD World Digital Competitiveness Ranking was introduced for the first time to help decision makers assess a country’s capacity and readiness to meet the ongoing digital transformation.
Finland just missed the global top three, coming in at fourth place in the index that looked at the knowledge, technology and future readiness countries possess in meeting the challenges of digitalisation.
