Finnish digitalisation and industrial innovation company Protacon has rebranded to Pinja. The new brand is formed by Protacon and the companies that have joined its expansion in recent years: ARROW, SWD, Descal, Netwell, Vision Systems and Powen. Pinja helps its industrial clients to digitalise their businesses and introduce new future-oriented business models. Its some 500 software developers, automation specialists, industrial designers and other employees in Finland currently serve customers in over 30 countries. The company’s turnover was around 40 million euros in 2019.

Konecranes wins its biggest-ever reach stacker order

Finnish company Konecranes has won its largest-ever order for reach stackers from a client in Germany. Secured with Konecranes’ distributor Richter Fördertechnik, the order is for 39 reach stackers with modifications that allow for the stacking of 22-tonne, 16-tonne and 6-tonne containers. The deliveries are scheduled to begin in the third quarter of 2020 and continue until the end of March, 2021.

SSH.COM wins further Business Finland and EU funding

Finnish communications security firm SSH.COM has been granted around 750 000 euros in funding from Business Finland and the EU for the further development of its PrivX product. PrivX is a simple access management software for privileged access to on-premise and cloud environments that improves IT security and brings cost and time savings to organisations. In addition to the funding, SSH.COM will have the chance to collaborate with many leading industrial players across Europe to develop the software in the industrial segments.

Finnair deepens collaboration with Juneyao Air

Finnish national carrier Finnair has signed a letter of intent with Shanghai-based Juneyao Air to deepen their collaboration between Europe and China. The plan is to establish a joint venture on the Helsinki–Shanghai route to bring a wider choice of destination, schedule and fare options to their corporate and leisure customers. Juneyao Air began operations on its route from Shanghai to Helsinki in July 2019, and since then the two airlines have codeshared flights on that and other routes in Europe and China.

Nokia strikes new deals worldwide

Nokia has announced several new deals around the world. The Finnish company has deployed its 3G-4G dynamic spectrum sharing (DSS) technology with 3 Indonesia to bring more 4G capacity to the Indonesian operator’s customers. Nokia has also strengthened its technology licensing business with a new deal with OnePlus. The Chinese manufacturer’s latest flagship smartphone, OnePlus 8 Pro, will use Nokia’s proprietary OZO Audio technology. Finally, Nokia’s Nuage Networks has partnered with Ireland-based Asavie and created the industry’s first SD-WAN solution for desktop, mobile and IoT devices that meets increasing demand for remote working connectivity.

Eltel signs EUR 38 million deal in Finland

Eltel Finland has signed a three-year frame agreement with Valokuitunen, a new joint venture between CapMan Infra and Telia, to construct a fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) network in Finland. The agreement is worth about 38 million euros. In the close partnership, Eltel will be responsible for project management, material management and logistics, fibre network construction, installation service works, and documentation. The first projects will take place in the Turku region, Uusimaa and the Helsinki metropolitan area.

Moominvalley finds new Nordic distributor

Gutsy Animations’ internationally acclaimed Moominvalley series will be distributed in the Nordics by SF Studios. The animated series is based on the beloved Moomin stories from late Finnish artist Tove Jansson, which celebrate their 75th anniversary this year. The first two seasons of Moominvalley will be made available on DVD and digital copy in the Nordics in December 2020. The series will later also become available on SF Studios’ SVOD platform, SF KIDS, in Sweden, Norway and Denmark. Moominvalley has so far been sold to over 30 countries, and it recently won the Best Children’s Series award at British Animation Awards.
