Nokia Bell Labs makes leaps in 5G tech

Finnish company Nokia’s research arm, Nokia Bell Labs, has broken world records and announced several new innovations in fibre optics that enable faster and higher-capacity 5G networks. Its researchers set a new world record for the highest single carrier bit rate at 1.52 terabits per second (Tbit/s) over 80 kilometres of standard single-mode fibre. Put into perspective, the speed is enough to simultaneously stream 1.5 million YouTube videos and is four times the speed of current state-of-the-art networks. The new announced innovations coming out of Nokia Bell Labs will strengthen Nokia’s ability to meet ever-growing data, capacity and latency demands in the upcoming 5G era.

The company runs Finland’s only online food recovery shop, which is open around the clock, with home deliveries taking between one and three days in the whole of Finland.
