HUS organises virtual health tech pitching event

HUS Helsinki University Hospital organised a virtual pitching event for the most promising health tech startups in Israel on 17 March. This was the first international Findery event in the Hospital District of Helsinki and Uusimaa (HUS), which aims to build health solutions for the future by offering companies easy access to top-level tertiary care professionals. The startups that took part in the event pitched ideas in the fields of artificial intelligence, mental health and cancer care via video connection. Valmet wins big order in China

Valmet will supply the world’s fastest coated board making line for APP’s Guangxi Jingui Pulp and Paper’s (GJPP) Qinzhou mill in China. The value of the order has not been disclosed, but one of this type and scope is typically worth around 150–200 million euros, according to Valmet. The high-speed, high-capacity machinery will also include extensive automation packages and industrial internet solutions. The start-up is scheduled for 2021. Image: Valmet

Metso supplies calcining system in Russia

Finnish company Metso will deliver a calcining system worth around 30 million euros to a customer in Russia. Set to be commissioned in 2023, the system will consist of two calcining lines with a combined capacity of 420 000 tonnes annually. Metso is the world’s leading provider of this type of calcining systems, having supplied more than 50 plants, which account for around 70 per cent of the total capacity in the world. Image: Metso

ALMA Consulting strengthens Vitec

Finnish software company ALMA Consulting is being acquired by Vitec Software Group. ALMA Consulting provides information management software for energy and processing industry companies in Finland. With operations in Kokkola, Raahe and Helsinki, the company reported sales of around 2.9 million euros in 2019 and currently has some 100 clients. Image: Alma Consulting

Anima’s Fleak wins Cartoon Movie award

Finnish animation studio Anima Vitae’s Fleak has won the Eurimages Co-production Award at Cartoon Movie, a European pitching and co-production forum for animated feature films. Co-produced with Poland’s Animoon, France’s Godo Films and Denmark’s Parka Pictures, the animated fantasy adventure tells the story of a 12-year-old boy who loses his ability to walk but must fight a shadow monster together with a friendly creature from another dimension. The film’s message of resilience and artistic originality won over the jury at the annual event in Bordeaux, France. The 20 000-euro prize will be used for the development of the 3D animated project.
