Built adjacent to Terminal 2 at Helsinki Airport by Skanska, the 13-storey complex will offer direct access to the terminals and train station at the airport upon its scheduled completion in 2024. It is expected to become a core part of the airport city, catering to the varying needs of businesses, residents and visitors with a wide array of services.
The total investment in the construction project has been estimated at over 120 million euros.
“The hotel will serve not only tourists but also businesses operating at Aviapolis, the fastest growing business district in Finland with over 2 000 national and international companies next to Helsinki Airport,” stated Ilkka Pitkänen, CEO of LAK Real Estate.
Designed by SARC Architects and operated by Nordic Choice Hotels, the complex will feature five restaurants, including a rooftop bar open to all visitors, gym and spa facilities, and meeting and conference facilities.
“This will give airport visitors new opportunities to tailor their accommodation or create a conference experience that exceeds expectations,” said Petter A Stordalen, owner of Nordic Choice Hotels.
Sustainability has been a key consideration at all stages of the project, with the construction site, for example, aiming for a waste recovery rate of 70 per cent. The project partners are also intent on accumulating enough points to earn a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold certification.
