Rovio Entertainment is again teaming up with Columbia Pictures to bring the birds and piggies to screens around the globe.

The two companies worked together on the first Angry Birds film, which slingshot to nearly 350 million US dollars in worldwide box office. The sequel will be distributed by Sony Pictures.

The second birdy adventure is expected to debut on 20 September 2019, which is also the 10th anniversary of the original Angry Birds game.

The Angry Birds Movie 2 will be directed by Thurop Van Orman (The Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack, Adventure Time) and co-directed by John Rice (King of the Hill, Rick and Morty), who was also involved in the making of the predecessor and Angry Birds Hatchlings shorts. The producer will be John Cohen (Despicable Me, The Angry Birds Movie) and the screenplay is under the responsibility of Peter Ackerman (FX’s The Americans, Ice Age).

“We are thrilled to be teaming up again with Sony Pictures after the fantastic co-operation in the first movie and I can’t wait to experience the new journey in the upcoming film,” tells Kati Levoranta, CEO of Rovio Entertainment. “Rovio is continuing to focus on creating exciting new stories and experiences around our games and we’re eager to take fans back into the vibrant Angry Birds world on the big screen.”
