The Finnish company Zen Robotics has struck a distribution deal for its artificial intelligence-driven waste sorting systems with Sun Earth, a leading technology supplier for the Japanese waste management industry. The deal includes the delivery of multiple units of the “Zen Robotics Recycler” to Japan at the end of 2015.

The Recycler’s purpose is to reduce waste processing costs and to increase recycling efficiency. The smart machine learning technology enables the robot to detect and distinguish different types of waste. Such robots will be the first of its kind in Japan.

“We want to offer our customers the most advanced technologies and the ZenRobotics Recycler is the best available technology in its field,” says Yutaka Ebihara, Sun Earth CEO. “The systems will be installed at various locations in Japan and they will be operated by forerunning Japanese waste management companies.”

ZenRobotics sees huge potential in the Japanese market. The deal with Sun Earth will nearly use the company’s remaining production capacity for the rest of the year.

The financial details of the deal have not been disclosed.
