Finnish company Valmet is to provide key technology to US tissue, paperboard and pulp manufacturer Clearwater Paper’s mill upgrade project in Lewiston, Idaho.

The order is Valmet’s second new cooking system project in North America in recent times. Alongside a CompactCooking G2 pulp cooking system, the order includes a new plant for generating polysulfide and a minor upgrade of the existing bleach plant.

Altogether these are to form part of Clearwater Paper’s 160 million-US dollar installation of a continuous pulp digester. The new development is to replace 12 batch digesters, thus significantly reducing air emissions, improving pulp quality, increasing production and utilising wood chips more efficiently.

The value of the order has not been disclosed.

Construction on the project is set to commence this month and is slated for completion in September 2017.
