According to Musical America, Susanna Mälkki’s credentials are impressive. Between 2006 and 2013 she was the music director of the Ensemble InterContemporain in Paris, this season marks her first at Helsinki Philharmonic, and the coming season she’ll work as the principal guest conductor of the Los Angeles Philharmonic.

Recently she was made a Chevalier of the Légion d’honneur in France. Mälkki has also led major debuts with orchestras in the US.

Mälkki is also to be one of the few women who have conducted at the Metropolitan Opera when she leads the local premiere of fellow Finn Kaija Saariaho’s L’Amour de loin.

Musical America describes “the hallmark of a Mälkki performance” being “the fresh expressiveness she brings to music whether new or old.”
