Finnish renewable materials company Stora Enso and US specialty chemicals company Rennovia have announced a joint development and license agreement.

Together the companies will co-operate on the development of bio-based chemicals that are of interest to Stora Enso. The Finnish company is targeting new markets and developing novel products as it transforms into a renewable materials company.

According to Juan Carlos Bueno, Stora Enso’s executive vice president, biomaterials division, the agreement “will accelerate some of the developments Stora Enso is working on and gives us a solid platform to move further in building a portfolio of sustainable bio-based solutions for our customers.”

Stora Enso will draw on Rennovia’s high-throughput catalyst discovery infrastructure and process development expertise, which is used for the cost effective production of chemicals from renewable feedstocks.
