New decade beats the previous one
Wednesday, 13 January, 2010
Typically for the turn of the year people tend to recollect the past and estimate the forthcoming. This year it’s a big one – the beginning of a brand new decade. Research centers draw up forecasts and analysts analyze future trends. Well and good, for sometimes it is useful to halt and assess things with a longer foresight.
I am convinced that the brand new decade will be a much better one than the last – from the viewpoint of economy, world politics and general quality of life.
I will not shut my eyes on the challenges affecting the entire world – climate change, economic crisis, threat from terrorism and political conflict are all aspects of reality in today’s world. And it seems that they will continue to be so also in tomorrow’s world.
So, what am I basing my positive estimate on? The moderate development during the past decade, for sure. There is only one way up.
But mostly I base it on the feelings, atmosphere and attitudes of myself, those around me and people I have met here and there. When sufficiently many aspire to take an action to make the new decade better than the previous one, believing that it can be done, this will definitely happen. This applies equally well to global challenges as private lives.
Since the start of the new year Finnfacts has taken on the responsibility of Good News from Finland website. We will continue publishing good news daily, in addition to which our weekly newsletter offers You, our esteemed reader, topical information on Finnish businesses, innovations and society.
As a new service we now introduce ’Theme of the Month’ – article series, which offers our readers weekly updated, comprehensive articles from different fields of Finnish expertise and internationally intriguing, current projects. We will also introduce people behind the initiatives by interviewing theme-related experts and decision-makers.
Our objective is to inform you about the positive things that happen around us, and pass on the good news. I believe that this way we can turn this decade out to be much better than the last.
Finnfacts is well pleased to take on the challenge!
