Over 200 Finnish gaming companies established since 2010

The past five years have seen over 200 games companies being established in Finland. The current total of active game developer studios in Finland is 260.

These figures were outlined in Neogames’ report The Game Industry of Finland 2014.

The rapid growth enjoyed in recent years by the Finnish game industry will see it exceed 1 billion euros in turnover this year.

The report also finds that of these there are 20 studios with a turnover of over 1 million euros. Figures regarding the turnover per employee are also impressive, reaching 409 000 euros in 2013. Altogether, the Finnish game industry currently employs around 2 500 industry professionals, with 20 per cent of them women.

Investments are not included in the turnover figures. The total amount of investment in the Finnish game industry was 25 million euros last year.

Meanwhile, the industry continues to diversify around the country, with 38 per cent of the game developer studios situated in the capital region of Helsinki, Espoo and Vantaa. This is down from 64 per cent in 2009.
