Finnish retinal camera company Optomed has reached the final round in TechEmerge, a World Bank Group initiative launched for the healthcare market in India.

The matchmaking program is for proven technology companies around the world that are looking to grow their business in emerging markets.

Optomed was among the 16 finalist from 330 companies who applied, and the TechEmerge grant will support its pilot project in India.

“This is a great opportunity to bring Optomed’s innovative products to the Indian market through one of the reputed eye care institutions Eye-Q hospitals with the help of IFC’s TechEmerge grant,” states Udaya Malla, Indian country manager of Optomed. “This pilot enables us to understand how we fit into medium segment clinics in Tier-2 cities and also to validate our technology to an existing technology.”

Optomed’s key innovation is the Smartscope PRO, the smallest product on the market with high image quality which fulfills international ISO 10940 fundus camera standard requirements.
