Oamk LABs lands prize for innovativeness

The Oamk LABs, developed at the Oulu University of Applied Sciences, has been selected as the winner for the Innovative Youth Incubator Award at ICIE 2017 in Malaysia.

Oamk LABs was chosen as the best among 25 entries from different countries. The competition was organised at the 5th International Conference on Innovation and Entrepreneurship 2017 in Kuala Lumpur.

Oamk LABs aims to provide interdisciplinary studies for budding industry professionals by providing students with an entrepreneurial mindset, professional skills and creativity for future working life. The learning model has been in development at the Oulu University of Applied Sciences since 2012 and is used globally in five different locations. Oamk LABs enrols roughly 250 students annually across three focus areas: Oulu Game LAB, Oulu DevLAB and Oulu EduLAB.

Oamk LABs has been recognised by international juries before, too. In 2016, Oamk LABs rose to second spot at the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Teaching Excellence Awards at the The European Conference on Innovation and Entrepreneurship (ECIE). In Finland, Arene (The Rectors’ Conference of Finnish Universities of Applied Sciences) selected Oamk LABs as the country’s best education model for business and work-life development in 2014.
