NR Rail to improve logistics links between Finland and Russia
NR Rail, a subsidiary of Finnish Nurminen logistics group, will offer new alternatives for import and export traffic between Finland and Russia.
The company is jointly owned by Nurminen Logistics and Russian Rustranscom group, which are about commence a strategic collaboration.
Nurminen Logistics provides logistics services, such as forwarding, cargo handling and railway transports. Rustranscom is one of the largest providers in various areas, including forest industry and agricultural products railway transport.
According to the press release published by Nurminen Logistics, the new agreement on international railway transport concluded between the two countries is due to be ratified soon. The bilateral agreement means the deregulation of rail transport between Finland and Russia in the Finnish rail network. Previously, this was subject to a Finnish State Railways (VR) monopoly.
Marko Tuunainen, president and CEO at Nurminen Logistics, is excited about the new venture. He says it will allow Nurminen Logistics to expand its service offering.
“What’s more, we will be able to offer an even longer value chain,” he states. “What we are setting out to do is to maintain our commitment to developing cost-effective and transparent logistics services to benefit Finnish import and export industries.”
The aim is to begin the locomotive business in the second half of 2017.
