Nokian Tyres has made a principal decision on the investment in its third factory and authorised a letter of intent with the respective authorities in the US.

The new greenfield factory is to be located in Dayton, Tennessee. The annual capacity of the factory will be four million tyres with room for expansion in the future. The site will also include a distribution facility.

The total investment for this phase is approximately 360 million US dollars. The construction is scheduled to commence early next year, and the first tyres will roll in 2020.

According to chairman of the board Petteri Walldén, the factory is a strategic decision to enable the company’s growth, as the total sales of tyres are expected to grow in the coming years.

“While the Dayton factory clearly enables us to serve our North American customers better and more efficiently, it also improves our production capabilities and customer service throughout our global operations,” he says.

The new factory will have about 400 employees.

At the moment, Nokian Tyres’ production plants are located in Finland and Russia.
