Finnish company Medicortex Finland is another step closer to realising its diagnostic kit for identifying brain injuries.

Altogether the Turku-based startup raised 140 000 euros via the crowdfunding platform InvesdorMedicortex Finland is developing a rapid diagnostic test for detection of traumatic brain injury (TBI) and concussion.

According to the company, “It is estimated that about two per cent of people are continuously living with and suffering from chronic sequelae of TBI. It is called a silent epidemic because of relatively high prevalence and the general unawareness associated with the condition.”

Upon completion of the diagnostic kit, next up for Medicortex is developing an innovative drug to halt brain injury’s progression.

“We are starting now our clinical trials in collaboration with several Finnish hospitals,” states Medicortex’s Martti Kaasalainen. “The target is to gather enough data for a statistically significant result.”
