London calling Rovio
Finnish game company Rovio is about to open an office in London, where it will build a collaborative team of around 20 members.
The London-based team will focus on massively multiplayer online games, or MMOs, with new IP “beyond the Angry Birds universe”.
“Our business is profitably growing and London is the most logical place for us to found a new studio that will complement our overall global mix of internal and external developers,” says Antti Viitanen, SVP studios at Rovio. “London is also a fantastically diverse talent magnet.”
Mark Sorrell, head of studio, believes that the best game experiences are “those that you share with other people”.
“So we’re starting a studio to do exactly this,” he adds. “We look forward to bringing a diverse team together to deliver unique MMOs that are creative, inclusive and delightful.”
In addition to the London studio, Rovio has four other in-house studios, three of which are located in Finland and one in Sweden. The company also boasts a global network of external partner developers.
The London team will be built over the coming two years. Rovio encourages those interested in its offering to keep an eye on their latest open positions.
Just some weeks ago, Rovio launched its most recent Angry Birds game, Angry Birds Blast.
