Krista Kosonen a class act in Shanghai
Finnish actress Krista Kosonen has been deemed Best Actress at the 18th Shanghai International Film Festival.
Kosonen was awarded a Golden Goblet for her starring role in Kätilö (retitled Wildeye in English).
“This is unbelievable; I feel like I’ve been knocked on the head,” Kosonen exclaimed in an interview with national broadcaster Yle. “I can’t really take this in yet. First I cried and then I laughed.”
Based on Katja Kettu’s award-winning 2011 novel, Kätilö, the film tells the tale of a Finnish midwife whose illicit affair with a German officer is set against the backdrop of the Lapland War of 1944–1945.
Director Antti J. Jokinen’s previous film was the acclaimed Purge, based on the novel by Finnish author Sofi Oksanen.
Wildeye premieres in Finland in September, with its international release schedule yet to be confirmed.
