Finnish elevator and escalator giant KONE has won two orders for metro projects in Shanghai and Lanzhou in China.

KONE will equip nine new stations built as a part of the Shanghai metro extension. The order includes altogether 69 escalators and 24 elevators. The Shanghai Metro, one of the busiest rapid rail networks in the world, has expanded ever since it was opened in 1993. Today some nine million people travel on its 14 lines every day.

The Finnish company will also supply 117 escalators for the first of the three metro lines to be included in the underground network in Lanzhou in northwest China. The construction is due to be completed in 2018.

KONE has a long track record of providing solutions for China’s public transportation networks and building projects. Earlier this year KONE won orders to deliver elevators and escalators for the Taikang headquarters project in Beijing, the expansion of Zhengzhou’s metro, high-end residential towers in Liuzhou and Nanjing’s Kingfine Center.
