KONE has signed a contract with the German shipyard Meyer Werft for the supply of 32 elevators and two escalators for a luxury cruise ship to be built for Norwegian Cruise Line.

The yet unnamed cruise ship belongs to Breakaway Plus-class and its capacity will be over 4 000 passengers. The vessel will be built at Meyer Werft’s shipyard in Papenburg, Germany, and delivered to the customer in 2018.

“We are happy to work once again in partnership with the Meyer Werft group and Norwegian Cruise Line on this new and exciting project,” says Ari Winter, the head of marine business at KONE. “The importance of moving people efficiently on a cruise ship cannot be overstated.”

Norwegian Cruise Line is one of the three major global cruise vacation companies and at the moment it has 14 ships in the fleet.
