Finnish elevator and escalator giant KONE is to equip metro line 3 in the Saudi Arabian capital of Riyadh. The deal includes 262 escalators and 156 elevators of which 96 will be scenic.

At 41 kilometres in length, line number 3 is the longest out of the six lines in the Riyadh metro project and is spread across 22 stations.

“Riyadh is at the centre of fast-paced infrastructure developments with the city’s metro being one of the world’s biggest infrastructure projects,” says Pierre Liautaud, executive vice president for KONE South Europe, Middle East and Africa. “We’re extremely proud to be partnering on this project and help fulfil the demands of the growing commuter base.”

The Arriyadh Development Authority’s commissioned order is expected to be in operation by the end of this decade.

This is a second similar kind of order for KONE this year, after it announced earlier this year that it will provide elevators and escalators for the new passenger terminal building at Bahrain International Airport. In both orders, the solutions is equipped with KONE E-Link monitoring systems.
