Finnish K Group and Alibaba have opened an food online store to bring Finnish food brands to the growing Chinese food e-commerce market.

K Group is the first Finnish grocery retail operator to enter the Chinese food e-commerce market via Alibaba’s online store, and a number of Finnish food industry actors such as Paulig, Fazer and Kiantama are also involved in the project.

“China has the world’s largest and most advanced e-commerce food market, from which we will learn valuable lessons,” says Mikko Helander, K Group’s president and CEO. “We will develop the online store with our partners in an agile way and in a startup spirit.”

The delivery of Finnish goods to China has already commenced through Alibaba’s online store and the offering will expand in the coming months with products from Valio, Raisio, Finn Spring and Roberts, for example.

K Group’s own food brand Pirkka will also be on offer and Food from Finland, part of FinPro, is involved as a partner in the endeavour.

“Finnish food stands for first-class quality, purity and safety, attributes that are key to making purchase decisions by Chinese consumers,” comments David Lloyd managing director of the UK, Ireland and Nordics at Alibaba Group.

Good News from Finland is published by Finnfacts, which is part of Finpro.
