Aalto University’s students have gained success in international fashion competitions. Last week’s achievements include three spots in the finals at the Hyères Fashion Festival and the Grand Prize in the Designers’ Nest competition.

Elina Määttänen, Sophie Sälekari and the partnership of Elina Äärelä and Heini-Maria Hynynen have been selected to be among the 10 finalists at the Hyères Fashion Festival. Organised in Hyères, on the French Riviera, since the beginning of the 1980s, the event is regarded as one of the world’s most prestigious fashion competitions. The judging panel of the Hyères Fashion Festival is comprised of the most influential international figures in the fashion world.

Rolf Ekroth’s collection won the Grand Prize in the Designers’ Nest competition held during Copenhagen Fashion Week. Designers’ Nest is an invitation-only competition and one of the most significant competitions targeted at clothing design students in the Nordic countries.

In 2013, Finnish fashion designer Satu Maaranen was awarded the Hyères Première Vision Grand Prize for her Garment in Landscape collection of women’s clothing. Maaranen’s collection stood out especially thanks to her hand-painted fabrics.
