Helsinki Region Transport (HSL) came out on top in the European BEST (Benchmarking in European Service of Public Transport) survey for the fifth year running.

The BEST survey measures resident satisfaction with local public transport. In Finland, a total of 1 900 respondents from all of HSL’s member municipalities participated in the survey.

In 2014, 79 per cent of HSL area residents were satisfied with the public transport. According to HSL, overall satisfaction has been around 80 per cent since HSL was established in 2010. The next most satisfied residents were in Geneva and Stockholm, while the least satisfied residents were found in Copenhagen and Bergen.

The HSL area received good ratings in almost all areas of the survey. Compared to the other cities, the HSL area did particularly well in public transport loyalty, which measures people’s willingness to recommend the use of public transport to others. The results also show that in the HSL area, public transport offers better value for the money than in the other cities.
