Helsinki among top 10 cities internationally for hosting conventions
U.S.-based trade publication Smart Meetings magazine has ranked Helsinki among the 10 most notable host cities for international conventions.
An average of 40 000 visitors come to Helsinki each year to attend up to 300 conventions that are organised in the city.
“Helsinki is home to world-class science and research, which attracts international meeting organisers,” observes convention director Ines Antti-Poika at Helsinki Convention & Events Bureau. According to Antti-Poika, high-quality services are complemented by abundant nature, creativity and affordability. “Prices in Helsinki are reasonable by European standards, and the quality-to-price ratio is high.”
Safety, cleanness and accessibility all attributed to Helsinki’s high placement. Alongside Helsinki’s strengths in design, the new direct train connection from the airport to the city centre opening in July is set to further enhance the favourable impression made on convention guests.
A number of upcoming science meetings being held in Helsinki are to focus on nanotechnology and rehabilitation research. Furthermore, the annual meeting of the European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology is expected to attract 8 000 participants to Helsinki in 2016.
