Finnish dairy manufacturer Valio has been granted a license to commence exports of its dairy products to South Africa, which also opens up other potential markets in the region.

Valio has been networking in South Africa for a few years now, and it has received help from FinPro’s Food from Finland and the Finnish Food Safety Authority Evira in securing the license.

The Finnish dairy manufacturer now plans to provide its expertise in both baby food raw materials and technological licensing in South Africa, as well as start importing its value-added products such as the Valio Elia lactose-free product line to the country.

“Evira’s export organisation has provided invaluable support for the export of Valio’s dairy products and in building the high-quality reputation of Finnish milk products around the world,” says Paavo Salminen, export director at Valio. “The role of public authorities in opening up trade is significant. Our co-operation has been excellent with various authorities.”
