A quintet of Finnish higher education institutes have been included in this year’s ShanghaiRanking list.

Altogether, the 2017 Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) surveyed 800 universities worldwide. The University of Helsinki was ranked in 56th position, the same result as last year. Once again, the university was also deemed the third-best in the Nordics.

According to rector Jukka Kola, “the ranking is based on the University of Helsinki’s research which is of a high quality, broad in scope and has significant impact.”

Elsewhere, the University of Eastern Finland was placed in the 301–400 bracket and Aalto University, the University of Oulu and the University of Turku came in between 401–500.

Harvard University remains the world’s number one university for the 15th year in a row.
