Finnish Aromtech and Piiloset have developed a sea buckthorn oil for treating dry eyes. The product will be available first in Europe and later elsewhere in the world.

The oil, known as Membrasin, is based on a clinical study conducted at the University of Turku. Aromtech has been involved in the research since the 1990s.

Aromtech aims to double its revenue by exporting new medicinal products containing sea buckthorn oil.

Membrasin Vision Vitality Spray will roll out first in European countries. As the oil is CE-marked, it can be sold throughout the European Union. According to Aromtech CEO Helena Korte, there are ongoing negotiations regarding the product’s sales outside of the EU.

Korte tells that Aromtech is currently developing a range of sea buckthorn products used in skincare and for the health of mucous membrane.

The product has been developed in collaboration with Piiloset, a Finnish company specialised in eye care. Its products are currently exported to about 30 countries in Europe, Middle East, South America and North Africa.
