The Finnish game industry is growing at a rapid pace. Local organisation Neogames Finland reports that both the number of game releases and the employment impact and total turnover of the game industry grew in 2015.

In 2015, the Finnish game industry’s turnover totalled approximately 2.4 billion euros. In terms of turnover, Finland is one of the top three game development countries in Europe. The global gaming market is estimated at a total of 84 billion euros.

According to Neogames, more than 95 per cent of the Finnish game industry’s turnover came from game exports. Year-on-year growth is 33 per cent, a significant proportion of which came from the Asian markets.

Mobile games generated the bulk of the turnover and the biggest financial successes, but major game development activities are also being carried out on other platforms. Commercial games were released on more than 150 different gaming platforms.

In addition, 200 new jobs were created in the game industry last year. All in all, Finland had approximately 290 game companies at the end of last year, and the industry employed some 2 700 people.

This year is also expected to be good for the game industry. Several new and long-awaited games are scheduled for release and new investments in game companies can be expected.
