Finnish film wins German award
Finnish film The Fencer (Miekkailija) has been named as the recipient of this year’s prestigious Bernhard Wicki Award.
The jury’s special award will be presented to director Klaus Häröon 2 July at a gala event in conjunction with Filmfest München, the Munich Film Festival.
“The Fencer is a real quality European film,” stated Werner Fuchs, a representative of German distributer Zorro Film. “I believe that it will find its audience in German-speaking Europe.”
The film is slated for release in Germany on 22 September.
In Finland the film has been seen by over 41 000 cinemagoers, and broke records in Estonia with attendee figures of some 40 000.
The Fencer was produced by Kai Nordberg and Kaarle Aho’s Making Movies, in co-operation with Estonian and German co-producers.
