Finnish drama series sold to Canada and US
The Finnish eight-episode drama series Look of a Killer produced by Zodiak Finland has been sold to Canada and the United States.
Distribution company Zodiak Rights finalised a deal on the rights to the series with American MHz Networks in November.
“The decisive step was finally getting the completed series through to the distributor,” says Zodiak Finland’s CEO Teea Hyytiä. “They were surprised by the high quality and professionalism of Finns and considered our work on par with the Nordic crime genre.”
Look of a Killer is based on Matti Rönkä’s novels. The leading actors in the series, directed by Lauri Nurkse, were Samuli Edelmann, Martti Suosalo and Maria Ylipää. The series was shown in Finland on the MTV3 channel in spring 2011.
“I believe that Finnish TV drama will be a significant export product in future,” Hyytiä says. “Each sale opens the door to new projects.”
Finnish TV formats have been in high demand recently: last week, the comedy-drama series Klikkaa mua (“Click me”) was sold to Sweden. In October, the drama Mustat Lesket was sold to the US, the format Martina ja hengenpelastajat to France and the sketch series Putous to China.
