Finnair makes first move in China
Finnair is launching ticket sales directly on its official WeChat account in China and enabling payments with WeChat Pay as the first airline in Europe.
The airline’s customers can now search for Finnair flights, book tickets and complete their purchases with WeChat Pay, all directly through WeChat. This allows passengers to stay within the same platform throughout the whole booking process, hence improving their user experience.
“China is one of our most important markets, and we want to be where our customers are,” says Juha Järvinen, chief commercial officer at Finnair. “Enabling ticket sales through WeChat and enabling WeChat Pay are important steps in better serving our customers in this rapidly growing market.”
Earlier this year, Finnair opened a Chinese customer service chat on its official WeChat account.
Finnair attracts Chinese travellers to Finland in co-operation with online travel platform Alitrip. In May, the company was selected as the Best European Airline at the TTG China Travel Awards for the second year in a row. Last year, it was recognised for having the Best Business Class at the Best Travel Awards 2016 event by China’s tourism industry, and it nabbed the title of the Best Inflight Catering Airline at the World Traveller Awards 2016, also organised in China.
