Finlayson’s bulbless innovation shines a light

According to Finlayson, there is no need for a lamp to look like a lamp if a new design serves the same purpose even better.

Finlayson is bringing a new bulbless lamp to the markets. The People’s Light prototype was presented at the Maison & Objet fair in Paris over the weekend.

The soft lamp contains an illuminating LED film, which lasts up to 100 000 hours in use. The light-weight lamp can be packed flat, for instance, enabling it to be placed in an envelope and sent directly from an online store to the customer’s mailbox.

According to Finlayson, the lamp combines modern technology with Finlayson’s familiar prints. Its purpose is to break boundaries and to serve as mood lighting and a design element in places where lamps are not usually seen.

The lamp was developed as a partnership between Finlayson and the Aalto University graduates Thomas Welander, Vertti Sarimaa and Jaakko Nikkola, the VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland and Flexbright, a Finnish company specialising in LED lighting films. The product will be available in stores next autumn.
