National Geographic Traveler magazine has named Finland among 21 destinations in 2017 in its annual Best of the World list. Meanwhile Travelbird has listed Helsinki as one of the globe’s most inspiring cities.

The destinations on the National Geographic list were all chosen by the Traveler editors and fall into one of three categories: Cities, Nature, or Culture. Finland’s national parks, wilderness, hiking areas and the Arctic Circle region ensured it was included in the nature category.

National Geographic Traveler’s readers represent key audiences for Finland’s tourism growth potential – they enjoy traveling and appreciate unique experiences and destinations like Finland,” says Paavo Virkkunen, director of Visit Finland, Finpro. “Visit Finland, together with the Finnish tourism industry, makes continuous efforts to increase the attractiveness of Finland and this honorable mention by National Geographic Traveler is a starting point for the cooperation.”

Meanwhile, Helsinki is officially the world’s second-most inspiring winter destination. Altogether, TravelBird surveyed the inspiration of 85 locations across the globe, and Helsinki was ranked 12th overall when all factors were tallied up.

Helsinki was also placed in the top ten for museums and film production companies, as well as performing arts companies.
