Finnish startup DoCover can commence using football club Real Madrid’s logo on its products, which are mobile device screen protectors decorated with holograms.

The news is reported by Finnish newspaper Helsingin Sanomat, which describes the agreement “a dream deal”. DoCover partner Jari Ronkainen tells the daily that DoCover is the only company in the world capable of producing screen protectors featuring a hologram that doesn’t affect the device’s usability. The hologram, like the logo of your favourite football team, is only visible when the phone isn’t being used.

The company was founded last autumn and the deal inked only about six months later.

“It was a great moment,” CEO Atso Toimela is quoted saying. “We’re a startup run by a couple of people, and Real Madrid has 300 million fans. It was a big win.”

According to the interview, DoCover is looking to get licenses from more major sports teams, which means Real Madrid is likely to be the first of many.

DoCover products are manufactured in China, but the innovation is Finnish and DoCover has patented the technology.

The Real Madrid screen protector collection will be launched at Mobile World Congree in Barcelona later this month.
