Digital Foodie and GS1 Finland sign partnering agreement

After signing a partnering agreement, Digital Foodie is providing a data verification service for GS1 Finland’s grocery product data.

A subsidiary of the Finnish Central Chamber of Commerce, GS1 Finland is responsible for maintaining and developing standards for the supply chain. It also provides a national product information data pool that is accessed by grocery retail customers, logistics partners and product manufacturers.

Digital Foodie’s latest product, Foodie Verification, ensures the accuracy of product information for the tens of thousands of food products catalogued by GS1 Finland. Data pertaining to ingredients, nutritional information, storage information and package measurements is now easily accessible via Foodie Verification.

The iPad application is wirelessly linked to a barcode scanner, as well as to a cloud-based server module that connects to the data pool. It can be used in stores, warehouses and distribution centres or at the manufacturer’s premises.

Validation costs will be heavily reduced by the service. Verification and aggregation of data is enabled in multiple locations at the same time, and any missing or incorrect information can be swiftly updated in coordination with product manufacturers.

The partnership announcement comes on the heels of the recently introduced EU Regulation No 1169, which has made the provision of extended product data mandatory for food and beverage items.
