As far as travel guides are concerned, Finland’s doing great for tourism in 2017: yet another publication has listed Finland as a top destination.

The number one spot was given to the capital Helsinki by Fodor’s, a global publisher of travel and tourism information.

“With 2017 marking the 100th anniversary of Finland’s independence, the clean, classy capital, Helsinki, is set to be Scandinavia’s place to be in the new year,” the website states. “Any time of the year, it’s a pleasure to explore the city’s high-design aesthetic (Helsinki was named the World Design Capital in 2012), thriving café and sauna culture, and the newly renovated Old Market Hall along the city’s revitalized waterfront.”

As an insider tip, Fodor’s suggests travellers go to the Lake Saimaa region for its sublime forests and pristine natural beauty.

Just earlier this week, The Independent included Finland in its list of places to visit for 2017. So have done National Geographic Traveler magazine and Lonely Planet, too.
