China Film Corporation is to co-finance and co-produce the European sci-fi franchise movie Iron Sky: The Ark, and has also attained its Chinese distribution rights.

The news is reported by various film sources, such as Variety, Hollywood Reporter and Screen Daily.

The film is set to be shot in Beijing this year, and its planned release is in 2018. At the helm once again is Finnish director Timo Vuorensola.

Last year, the crew announced a partnership with Shandong Jiabo Culture Development Co.

The first Iron Sky movie was released in 2012. The sequel, The Coming Race, is currently in post-production, and is expected to be released this year.
