Biohit’s test for Chinese market

In celiac patients the ingestion of wheat (pictured), rye and barley protein (gluten) causes inflammation of the small intestine mucosa and damages the microvilli. This in turn interferes with the absorption of nutrients.

Finnish biotechnology company Biohit has signed an agreement with Beijing Huayihuilang Medical Instrument.

The deal sees the Biohit Celiac Disease Quick Test being distributed in China, meeting the market’s increasing need. Celiac disease is a relatively common underdiagnosed autoimmune disease that causes various stomach problems.

Celiac Quick Test delivers results in 10 minutes.

“In China, celiac disease has so far received insufficient attention,” states Yisheng Fang, general director, Beijing Huayihuilang Medical Instrument. “Biohit’s sensitive and specific Celiac Disease Quick Test helps detect celiac disease patients among those with dyspeptic symptoms. The right diagnosis and a strict diet will bring significantly better life quality to these patients.”

Celiac Quick Test facilitates diagnosis from a fingertip blood sample within 10 minutes. After measuring all three celiac disease antibodies produced in the body, negative results thus exclude the presence of celiac disease.

Biohit has commenced the registration in China required to obtain the marketing authorisation for the test.
