Finnish wave energy technology developer AW-Energy and Mexican renewable energy developer ENAL have signed a memorandum of understanding.

Together the two companies are to develop, design and deploy a 10MW wave farm off the Pacific coast of Mexico. Once operational, it will be the first wave farm in operation in the Americas.

“I am highly pleased to see that we are making progress on various fronts and with the Mexican agreement now extend our reach of commercial development to eight countries globally,” says John Liljelund, CEO of AW-Energy. “While I am excited by the opportunity this brings to AW-Energy as a technology developer, I am equally thrilled that we are now kick-starting the development of wholly new industry in Mexico and the Americas.”

Alongside also being one of the largest wave farms in the world, the development is creating a marine energy industry that will feed both local and international markets.
