VTT and Invest in Finland support expertise in printed intelligence
Tuesday, 08 June, 2010
EnfucellSoft Battery developed by Enfucell is a good example of Finnish innovations in the field of printed intelligence.Technical Research Centre of Finland VTT and Invest in Finland have joined forces to speed up and support the wider commercial adoption of the printed intelligence technology, and to enhance the value of Finnish expertise. The objective is to attract foreign investments to Finnish companies and to encourage international bodies to establish product development and production units in Finland.
– We want to strengthen Finnish prerequisites in international competition. It would be a significant asset, if more international actors and networks could be drawn to Finland, say VTT’s Executive Vice President Tapio Koivu and Invest in Finland’s CEO Tuomo Airaksinen.
Printed intelligence describes products made with traditional printing techniques, such as bio- and electronic sensors and other electronic components, or even complete electronic devices. Finnish companies operating currently in the sector include Enfucell, Panipol, Lumedy and Nicanti. Globally, the printed intelligence market is expected to grow to hundreds of billions of euros annually.
VTT invests over 100 person-years of R&D into printed intelligence annually. The organisation also has a unique research infrastructure that supports the sector. A pilot factory in the city of Oulu, built in conjunction with the PrintoCent consortium, which was established in 2009, is near completion. The community also creates opportunities for small and medium-sized companies and new printed intelligence ventures are expected to emerge as a result of the project.
