Finnish business management consulting is in high demand. ̶ Integrity and know-how are our strong suits. We deliver on our promises, sums up HR Manager Minttu Sinisalo from August Associates Oy.
The roots of business management consulting can largely be traced back to the United States, where the Big Bang for modern consulting came with the 1929 stock market crash. It was not until the 1950s that business management consulting started to make its way to Finland.
Even though American consulting firms have gained a strong foothold in the country, Finnish firms have also been created at an increasing pace. Established in 2001, August wishes to offer an alternative to international consulting firms.
— According to our mission, consulting should be based on the real needs of companies rather than on standard solutions and routine processes.
Top quality and talent
— The Finnish character is all about integrity and focusing strongly on the projects’ factual content. Another aspect showcasing the Finnish mentality is our habit of delivering on or even beyond our promises.
— August’s expertise is based on capabilities, building on long years of experience in advising the senior management of companies. On the other hand, our expertise is also based on highly motivated and ambitious top talents.
But how can Finnish consulting firms hold their own and achieve success in the face of large international competitors?
— First and foremost, by offering projects with top-quality contents. Other success factors include the ability to adapt to the client’s situation, to tailor the project to meet the client’s actual needs, the ability to ensure that the end products are put into practice and by building the client’s own capabilities.
In practice, August serves large Finnish groups with global operations.
— In addition, we serve Nordic capital investors and their portfolio companies. Most of our projects have an international character, reflecting the broad geographical scope of our clients’ operations, explains Sinisalo.
All areas of the service portfolio – strategy projects, the development of sales and operations and the development of steering models for companies – are in equally high demand.
— Recently, sales management may have been the most prominent area.
According to Sinisalo, the fact that Finnish companies are seeking growth in the global markets creates more and more demand for international projects.
— We have built a strong network in order to serve our clients around the world. One example of this is the off-shoring concept that we launched in India. Under this concept, we have a team of analysts dedicated to August but outsourced through our partner, enabling us to gather information on a global scale.
