Finnish expertise in the water sector is top-class in the world. Waterix Oy, a rapidly internationalizing Finnish water company, believes in strong growth of water treatment technologies in the near future.

Founded in 2003 Waterix Oy is a specialist in progressive environmental technologies. The company designs and develops solutions serving the purpose of municipal and industrial sewage treatment and process water cooling. The main products are aerators, mixers and process water coolers.

Waterix’s clients are both industrial and municipal waste water treatment plants, landfill sites and golf courses. The solutions are always tailor made to meet the processing needs of the clients.

– Together with our partners we are able to carry out the entire process of designing and equipment technology delivery, says the CEO of Waterix, Heikki Tallgren.

Waterix's R&D-team has collected over 30 patents over the years, most of them recognized internationally. According to Tallgren innovativeness is based on both, new technologies and the progressive attitude of the product development team.

– We don’t settle with the old, reliable solutions. We actively search for better and most cost-effective ways of implementing new solutions. In order to maintain our leading position in development within the water sector it is also very important to cooperate with research centers and universities.

The development of Waterix systems pays special attention to the overall costs for the entire lifecycle of the product and to eco-efficiency of the products. The distinctive characteristics of the systems are lower energy consumption than competing technologies.

– For instance, the energy surplus achieved in municipal waste water treatment plants can be up to 30 or 40 per cent, depending on the depth of the aerator basins. The surplus is significant, because energy consumption is the biggest cost at such plants.

Waterix is in internationalizing rapidly. Trading in several European countries and in neighboring regions takes place through dealers and new contracts are continuously negotiated.

– In the first phase of internationalization our goal is to gain a significant foothold on all the important markets of the EMEA-region. In the second phase our aim is to expand even further afield, says Tallgren.

Promoting Finnish water expertise

Waterix is a member company of the Finnish Water Forum FWF, which promotes Finnish water expertise on the international markets. The network of water experts is constituted of private companies and public sector institutions, research centers, universities and ideological associations.

The new, 2009 established, FWF passes on information from international water forums to its members, promotes the establishment of national water initiatives and takes part in promoting the export of Finnish water sector. Specific emphasis is placed on advancing international development aid work in water related issues. FWF also takes part in meeting the United Nations Millennium Development Goals.

– We expect the forum to take an action towards highlighting the Finnish water sector internationally. Activities expounding upon Finnish water expertise, such as trade shows, conferences and seminars have been well wished for, Tallgren notes.
